Alex O’Dell is a Co-Founder and COO of Floyd, a digitally-native furniture startup based in Detroit, MI. Floyd was founded in 2014 when Alex and his co-founder, Kyle Hoff, set out to disrupt a slow-moving industry built around a poor experience and disposable products. Floyd focuses on creating thoughtful design and a great experience around the essential furniture pieces of the home. They currently offer a sofa, bed frame, table and shelving system manufactured with partners across the U.S. Alex and Kyle have grown Floyd’s early cult following into a subsequent eight-figure a year business, turning heads in design and retail — including a recent announcement of a wide scale West Elm partnership. Today, Floyd products are in more than 30,000 homes around the world. The company has doubled in size every year for the last five years, and has raised $10 million in venture financing to date. In his role as COO, Alex works alongside Kyle to lead a company of over 35 employees working out of their Detroit HQ. Alongside his co-founder, Alex has used his keen sense of brand and a customer-driven approach to take Floyd from concept to major category contender in just a few short years. Alex was recognized in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in 2020 for his accomplishments in growing the brand. He graduated from The University of Michigan in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, and started Floyd shortly after school at the age of 23.
